Where it comes from.

A looped yarn that mid-century furniture made famous

Bouclé takes its name from the French boucler, to buckle or to curl. It is not a weave but a yarn: one ply is held under tension while another loops around it, so the finished thread carries small closed loops along its length. Woven up, those loops give the nubbed surface that reads as texture from across a room and as softness up close.

The material long predates its furniture association, but the link was fixed in 1948, when Eero Saarinen's Womb Chair for Knoll was upholstered in it. That chair needed a fabric that would stretch over a compound curve without darting or puckering, and a looped yarn had enough give to manage it. Function chose the material; the look followed.

Its return in the 2010s and 2020s was driven by the same property. Bouclé upholsters curved, seamless volumes far more forgivingly than a flat-woven cloth — which is exactly what contemporary rounded forms demand.

Legs and metalwork in your finish — brushed brass, gilded, matte black, gunmetal, or polished chrome. Each commission hand-finished.
