Where it comes from.

Dessau, bicycle tubing, and structure as ornament

In 1925, at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Marcel Breuer began working with bent tubular steel. By his own account the handlebars of his Adler bicycle suggested the material: strong, light, hollow and — crucially — bendable in continuous curves by machine rather than by hand.

The result was furniture whose structure and appearance were the same thing. A tubular frame has no concealed joints and no surface applied over it; the line of the tube is both the load path and the design. That was the Bauhaus argument made physical — form following function following material.

A bench in this vocabulary is the most reduced version of the idea, since it has no back to complicate the geometry. The whole object is a frame and a seat plane. There is nowhere to add anything, which means the proportions and the quality of the bends carry the entire result.

Choose your leather (full-grain, semi-aniline, or pull-up) or fabric (linen, velvet, bouclé, performance). Frame in kiln-dried hardwood. Cushions in high-density foam + down topper.

Finish

Legs and metalwork in your finish — brushed brass, gilded, matte black, gunmetal, or polished chrome. Each commission hand-finished.

Choose your fabric or leather (full-grain leather, semi-aniline, pull-up, linen, velvet, bouclé, performance), the frame finish (brushed brass, gilded, matte black, gunmetal, polished chrome), and cushion firmness. Standard reference dimensions are available, but most clients adjust at least one dimension to fit their space.

How long does the Tubular Bench take to build?

Drawings, material samples, and a fixed quote within 1–2 weeks of your first brief. Production takes 8–14 weeks from your approval. White-glove delivery and installation by our own team across Bangkok and Greater Thailand is included on most pieces. International shipping (Singapore, Hong Kong, Phuket, Koh Samui) is fully crated and available on request.
