Where it comes from.

Furniture designed to be rearranged

Modular seating emerged from a specific twentieth-century observation: people move, apartments change shape, and a fixed three-seat sofa built for one room becomes an obstacle in the next.

The design response was to make the module rather than the sofa. Identical or complementary units connect in multiple configurations, so one set of pieces can form an L in one room, a straight run in another and separate seats in a third. Mario Bellini's Camaleonda (1970) is the canonical statement of the idea, though the logic has been rebuilt repeatedly since.

The engineering question is the connection. Modules relying on gravity and friction drift apart in use; modules with mechanical connectors stay aligned but constrain the possible layouts. Which compromise is right depends on how often the arrangement will genuinely change — worth answering honestly before ordering, because the two versions behave very differently after a year.

Legs and metalwork in your finish — brushed brass, gilded, matte black, gunmetal, or polished chrome. Each commission hand-finished.
